Mrs. Herring was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie H. Herring; a daughter, Janice Herring Bowen; a son, Bernice Franklin Herring; a daughter-in-law, June Wagner Herring; sons-in-law: Bruce Worrell and Ronnie Collins; and two siblings: Louise Brisson Dawson and James Lonnie Brisson.
Yvonne Herring is survived by her daughters, Judi Herring Collins of Chapin, SC, Diann Herring Worrell of Chapel Hill, and Jimmie Ann Herring Mitchell of Goldsboro; her very dear sister-in-law, Patsy Brisson; as well as 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Yvonne has been a member of Godwin Heights Baptist Church for about the past two decades and a long-time past member of Zion's Tabernacle Baptist Church. She enjoyed being a member of the church choir and participating in Christian service and fellowship with her church family.
Mrs. Herring was a meticulous seamstress who took pride in designing and making intricately crafted clothing for her four daughters and herself. She was the perennial school room mother, often sewing costumes for school plays in addition to supplying homemade goodies to her children's classmates on special occasions.
Friends had appreciation for her culinary expertise, as she took great pleasure in cooking and baking for large holiday dinners to delight her family and friends. Each day Mrs. Herring would bake two pans of buttermilk biscuits to ensure she only served hot biscuits and brewed a pitcher of fresh sweet tea daily. Friends considered it a special treat to join the Herring family for Sunday dinner because of Yvonne's expertly prepared meals of the freshest seasonal bounty.
Mrs. Herring was an exceptional gardener and cherished spending time along the Carolina coast fishing with her husband while sharing leisure time with friends and family. Building cottages at the beach with her husband allowed Mrs. Herring to showcase her decorating talents and green thumb to enhance the properties for a welcoming home away from home.
Yvonne Herring's family would like to thank her loving neighbor, Jeannie Davis, for her deep, unwavering friendship.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations be made to Godwin Heights Baptist Church, 704 Godwin Avenue, Lumberton, NC 28358, or to Lutheran Hospice, PO Box 805, White Rock, SC 29177.
