William Alfred Tyner, age 82, of Lumberton, passed away Tuesday, November 06, 2012 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. He was born on April 28, 1930 in Mecklenburg County. He was a veteran of the US Army and a retired employee of the NC State Department of Transportation. He was also a lifelong member and trustee of Raft Swamp Baptist Church in Lumberton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Berry Tyner and Beulah Stone Tyner McLeod; his birth mother, Flo Smith McCurdy; and a sister, Carolyn Bentley.

Mr. Tyner is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine Odum Tyner, of the home; two daughters Denise Townsend and husband, Billy, and Dera Lynn Bledsoe and husband, Mack, all of Lumberton; one son, William Mark Tyner and wife, Sharon, of Lumberton; three sisters, Phyllis Douglas, of Taylorsville, Pat Patterson, of Statesville, and Kathryn McCurdy of Taylorsville; two grandsons, William Blake Townsend and wife, Maureen, and Judson Bledsoe, all of Lumberton; one granddaughter, Stephanie Jones, and husband, Guy, of Lumberton; and one great-granddaughter, Allyssa Blakelynn Townsend.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Raft Swamp Baptist Church, Lumberton, with Rev. Mark Hall, Rev. Johnny Bruce, and Dr. Wayne C. Tyner officiating. Burial will be private.
