William “Stanley”
Prevatte
Jul 6, 1947 — Oct 4, 2026
William "Stanley" Prevatte, 79, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026. He was born on July 6, 1947, to the late Clinston and Hazel Prevatte.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Clinston and Hazel Prevatte; his paternal grandparents, John W. and Exie Prevatte; and his maternal grandparents, Hasley and Essie Mae Lovette.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Sylvia Prevatte, of the home; his brother, Julian Prevatte, and special friend Ali of Hope Mills; his daughter, Savannah Driggers of Orrum; his grandson, Porter Driggers of Orrum; and a host of brother in laws, sister in laws, nephews, and nieces.
Stanley was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent 25 years as a locksmith with Public Schools of Robeson County. Prior to that, he worked for Avery Nye Construction, where he built a reputation for his strong work ethic and dependability.
Stanley's love for his community was evident through his many years of service with the Smyrna Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was among the firefighters listed on the department's first roster when it was established in January 1977. Throughout his nearly 50 years of service, Stanley demonstrated unwavering dedication, loyalty, perseverance, and, above all, kindness toward his fellow firefighters.
Over the years, Stanley advanced from firefighter to Chief, while also serving on the department's board and advocating for the interests of his fellow firefighters, the firehouse, and the community he loved. His commitment to serving others left a lasting impact on the department and the many lives he touched.
Stanley was also an active member of Godwin Heights Baptist Church, where his faith and love for his community were an important part of his life.
Stanley was more than a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a man who showed up for others, served his community, and gave his time and heart freely. His kindness, humor, strength, and dedication will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Though he has gone on to his eternal home, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, fellow firefighters, and everyone whose life he touched.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Healthkeepers Hospice 209 W 3rd St. Pembroke, NC 28372
