William Douglas Smith ("Pooh"), age 75, was born on August 14, 1950 to Frank and Letha Smith in Lumberton, NC. Douglas passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025 in his beloved Elm City home surrounded by his family. Douglas was preceded in death by both parents.

Growing up, Douglas was the star quarterback in high school and made several friends who also became family. Douglas was a jack-of-all-trades, well known for being a painter and later made a career in construction. Douglas married his wife, Charlie, in 1974 and they were together 51 years. Douglas moved to Elm City, NC with his wife and children in 2006, where he spent the rest of his days making new memories and friends. In Wilson, Douglas became known as, "Pa". If you were a friend to his grandchildren, you were considered a grandchild. Douglas loved his family; he was a true family man.

Douglas is survived by his wife, Charlene ("Charlie"); 3 sisters: Lisa, Frankie, and Brenda; 2 brothers, Frank, Jr. (Patricia) and Larry (Kim); 3 daughters: Ericka (Lora), Melissa (Brandon), and Kristen; a nephew/son, Christopher (Marrisa); and 1 special person, Heath. Doug has 5 grandchildren: Brandagan, Haliey (Quan/Crow), Alexus (Jon), Joshtyn, and Myleigh; 2 great-grandchildren, Ava and Wrenlee; 6 special grandchildren: Caylynn, Chloe, Chrisa, Eli, Asia, and Hunter; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Floyd Mortuary and Crematory, Inc., 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM.

Additionally, a celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, beginning at 1:00pm at Melissa Smith's home in Elm City, NC.
