William Haynes ??Bill? Lewis, age 82, of Fairmont passed away June 25, 2012 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, NC.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Fairmont First Baptist Church

Burial will follow in the Floyd Memorial Cemetery in Fairmont.

Bill was born August 1, 1929 in Aynor, SC. He was the son of Alvin Dawson, Sr. and Beulah Prevatte Lewis.

He was a 1951 graduate of Wake Forest College. He was retired from the Robeson Insurance Agency in Fairmont where he served as partner for over forty years. His service to the Lord included membership at the First Baptist Church in Fairmont where he served as usher and taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Sudan Temple and the Masonic Lodge No. 528 in Fairmont. As a member of the Fairmont High Golden Tornadoes Booster Club, Bill served a P.A. announcer for football games. He was an active member of the Fairmont Civitan Club, serving as past president and past secretary. His Civitan service included coaching in the Civitan little league for twenty years. His civic service included multiple terms on the Fairmont Town Board. An avid golfer, Bill was a long standing member at Flag Tree Golf Club in Fairmont.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Dawson Lewis, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years, Ida Rose Lewis of the home; a daughter, Karen Rose Lewis of Fairmont; two sons, Gregory Wayne Lewis (Deanna), and William Eugene Lewis(Kara) of Columbia, SC; two grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Visitation will follow the burial at the graveside.
