William Lane Ashley, age 100, was born in Proctorville, NC to the late Samuel Vernon Ashley and the late Myrtle Leggett Ashley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Dewley Ashley; a brother, Thomas Hugh Ashley of Durham, NC; and a granddaughter Danita Smith Hodges of Wilmington, NC.

He is survived by a son, Jerry Dewley Ashley (Wanda) of Wilmington, NC, a son, Gary Lane Ashley (Betsy) of Hampstead, NC; a daughter, Jane Ashley Smith (Glenn) of Proctorville, NC; five grandchildren, Russell, Jason, Alison, Ashley and Tyler; seven great grandchildren, Dalton, Jacob, Lane, Abigial, Parker, Lillie Kate, and Benjamin.

He was in the Army Air Force and served in Presque Isle, ME, Iceland, and Greenland as a Sergeant during World War II. He loved working on automobiles, doing body work and mechanical work all of his active life.

A time of visitation will be held Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 1-2pm at Proctorville Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2pm.

Burial will follow in Floyd Memorial Cemetery in Fairmont.
