Wanda Fernandez Cheatham died on Friday, August 30, 2024, in Novant Hospital in Winston Salem, NC.

Wanda was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, during the 1960's. During her life, she had may pasttimes that she enjoyed, especially going dancing with her friends and also drawing. Of all of her life experiences, what she truly prized most of all, was being a part of the Fresh Air Children's Program in New York, which helped inner city children in New York experience rural farming life. Through the program, she spent time on a farm in the Amish country of Pennsylvania, under the supervision of Jonathan and Lydia Lantz. Wanda always said that these were the best times of her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas Fernandez and Ana Robles.

She is survived by one daughter, Jessica Padilla of San Antonio TX; three brothers: Efraim Fenandez of Canyon Lake, TX, Jorge Fernandez and his wife Iris, of Hanau, Germany, and Frank Suarez, Jr. and his wife Rita of Lumberton, NC; and two sisters, Migdalia Fernandez and her husband Carlos Pacheco of Lumberton, NC and Ana Suarez of Leland, NC.

There will be a memorial service held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 3:00 pm in Chestnut Street Methodist Church, located at 200 E. 8th Street in Lumberton, NC.
