Mrs. Vivian Locklear Godwin, age 87, of Lumberton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, March 6, 2026. She was born in Lumberton, North Carolina, to the late Leona Locklear Morgan.

She dedicated more than 20 years of hard work in the local chicken and turkey plants, where she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. Above all, Vivian was a devoted mother, grandmother, and family matriarch who loved her family deeply and cherished every moment spent with them.

In addition to her mother, Vivian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Harvey Godwin; great-granddaughter, Danielle Marie Small Godwin; and her siblings: Marvin Locklear, Lacey Locklear, Macy Locklear, Margie Ree Locklear, and Billy Morgan.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory her four children: Angela Rose Godwin and Paula Lynn Godwin, both of the home, and Pamela Kay Godwin and August Leona Godwin, both of Lumberton, North Carolina; her grandchildren: Shawnee James Godwin (Desiree) of Pensacola, Florida, Valerie Strickland of the home, Latoya Hinds Taylor, and David Hinds, Jr.; and 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Vivian is further survived by her siblings: Frances Daly, Warren Morgan, Jr. (Millie), Josephine Metcalf (Aubrey), Theodore Hunt, and Donald Morgan (Ethel).

Vivian will be remembered for her strength, her love for her family, and the many lives she touched throughout her 87 years. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A time of visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Floyd Memorial Chapel, 809 E. 5th Street, Lumberton, NC 28358. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery, 147 Mt. Moriah Church Road in Lumberton, NC.
