Vernon Gordon Baxley, age 89 of Lumberton, NC passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Gordon was born in Robeson County on October 1, 1935 to the late Vernon Arthur Baxley and Bessie Allen Baxley.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Joyce O'Tuel Baxley; sister, Dorothy Wilkins; and brothers-in-law, Harvey Charles Allen and Bill Wilkins.

Gordon was a retired truck driver. He loved fishing and gardening. He especially loved his grandchildren. He was a member of Zion's Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 8 years, Paula Gail Bruce Baxley; sons, Alan Baxley and wife Annette and David Baxley and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Vance Baxley, Leeann Baxley Martin and husband David, Lindi Baxley, and Kelly "Ren" Baxley; and sister, Mary Lou Allen.

The family would like to extend appreciation to Gordon's caregivers, Elizabeth Jacobs, Melissa "Cookie" Clark, and Loretta Dunn, for their love and care during his time of sickness.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Floyd Mortuary and Crematory, 809 E. 5th Street, Lumberton, NC.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Meadowbrook Cemetery, 400 E. 24th Street, Lumberton, NC.
