Mrs. Velma Oxendine Roberge, age 89, of Lumberton, NC, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022, at her home. She was born on August 13, 1933 in Robeson County, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arber Oxendine, Sr. and Pearlie Strickland Oxendine; her soulmate, Harvey Singletary; eight brothers: Cullan Oxendine, Vardell Oxendine, Ardell Oxendine, Varcie Oxendine, James Wilbert Oxendine, Charlie Ray Oxendine, Arber "Zonnie" Oxendine, Jr., and John Wesley Oxendine; and three sisters, Allie Ruth Oxendine Price, Eula Oxendine, and her twin sister, Thelma Oxendine Cintron.

Ms. Velma was a member of New Bethel Methodist Church and retired from Converse Shoe Co. She was also a member of the South Robeson Elders Club. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and mother-in-law. Velma and Thelma loved dressing alike even when it was hard for people to tell them apart.

She leaves to cherish her memories her three daughters: Cathy Locklear and husband Mark of Aberdeen, NC, Audrey Cox and husband James Michael of Lumberton, NC, and Jackie Locklear and husband Mark of Little River, SC; one brother, R.J. Oxendine and wife Ruth of Fairmont, NC; twelve grandchildren, Nikki Locklear, Jennifer Locklear, Adam Locklear, Adam Keith Rozier, Corey Cox, Jeremy Cox, Jimmy Lowry, Eric Scott, Amanda Hunt, Dereak Locklear, Marcus Locklear, and Harry Locklear; twenty great-grandchildren; a great host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends; a special cousin, Allie Lois Sanderson; and special friends, Pastor Scott and Ms. Marilyn Hammonds.

A time of visitation will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2022, from 6:00-8:00PM at Floyd Funeral Services, 1549 Marion Stage Road in Fairmont, NC.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 3:00 PM at New Bethel Holiness Methodist Church in Rowland, NC with Pastor Scott Hammonds and Bishop Kenny Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
