Obituary

Terry Davis Tyndall, beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and companion, passed away the morning of his birthday, Thursday, June 10, 2021, at the age of 79 of natural causes at his residence in Lumberton, NC.  He was born June 10, 1942 to parents Vernon Elbert and Hazel Paul Tyndall.

He is survived by his eldest son, Davis Gray Tyndall and wife Stephanie of Saint Augustine, FL and their children: Austin, Alyson, Ethan, and Olivia, along with Austin's wife, Taylor, and Terry's great-granddaughter, Blayke; his youngest son, Harper Freeman Tyndall and wife Kathryn of Albuquerque, NM and their sons, Cyril and Davis; his siblings: James with wife Regina, Ann, and Lana and their extended families; and his longtime companion, Sarah Kelly of Lumberton, NC.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Mary Harper Freeman Tyndall, and his niece, Elizabeth Ann Pait.

Terry spent his childhood growing up in Lumberton, NC and often told the tall tales of his youth and the trouble he would find himself in. He loved working in the community at the local recreation center and, later, after graduating college, as a high school teacher and coach. After being introduced by his sister Lana, Terry married Mary Harper Freeman and settled down in Kinston, NC where they raised their family until her untimely death in 1993. For a short while, Terry lived in Salinas, CA with his son Gray and his family, where he was able to spend the quality time he loved with his grandchildren. In his later years, Terry returned to Lumberton to reside in the community of his youth with longtime companion Sarah Kelly.

To know Terry was to know a friend. He was as quick with a shoulder as he was with a joke. He loved mentoring and coaching and spending time with his family and friends. He was a surprisingly good dancer to his favorite beach oldies and fancied himself an equally good singer.  He was truly loved and will be deeply missed.
