Mrs. Sylvia Herring Callihan, born September 8, 1948 to the late James Herring of Chadbourn and the late Eunice Williamson Herring Ivey of Lumberton, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

She is survived by her husband, Willard Callihan, Sr.; two daughters, Sherry Rice Jolly (Ricky) and Tammy Rice Britt, all of Lumberton; three stepchildren she loved as her own, Willard Callihan, Jr. (Michele) of Indian Rocks Beach, FL, Christopher Mark Callihan (Shane) of Wilmington, NC and Allison Callihan Kontz, whom we lost April 17, 2016.  She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Elwood Ivey and her brother, Eugene Herring. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Evan Rice, Casey Mercer, Hailey Britt (Nathan Sanderson) and Issac Britt and two step-grandchildren, Alex Callihan and Kayla Kontz; two great-grandchildren, Landon Sanderson and Briella Sanderson and eight step-great grandchildren, Myra, Julian, Izzy, Gabby, Gracie, Ellie, Alex and Jack; her brothers, James Herring, Jr. of Whiteville, Kenneth Ivey of Raleigh and Elwood "Chip" Ivey and Dennis Ivey, both of Lumberton.

She was a retiree of Robeson County Social Services where she worked in the Medicaid Department for twenty-three years where she loved assisting the residents of Robeson County.

She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Lumberton since 1988.  She loved children and served for many years as a Children & Teen's Sunday school teacher.  She was always an active home bible study teacher which was a powerful and driving force in her life.  Winning souls was the number "one" goal of her life.  She is our loss, but Heaven's gain.

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 12:00-1:00PM at LifeChurch, 2042 US Hwy 701 N, Elizabethtown, NC.

A funeral service will follow the visitation on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 1:00PM at LifeChurch with Pastor Lacey Norris officiating.  Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery in Bladenboro.
