Sue Ellen Lanier, age 78, of Lumberton, North Carolina transitioned from her earthly home to her Heavenly home on April 8, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was born March 11, 1948 to the late Johnnie Murry and Edith Rose Russ.

Sue loved her family, watching sports, and dancing. She loved life and whoever walked through the door of her home.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Bruce Lanier, and her brother, Murray Johnnie Russ.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Paula Lanier; her grandson, John Lanier (Leah); her great-grandchild Jennings Lanier; her siblings: Joann Smith, Viola McDonald, and Edith Warrick (Junior), who were always by her side; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will be gathering at 1891 Russ Road in Lumberton, NC.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery, 5176 Barker Ten Mile Road in Lumberton, NC, with Pastor David McClellan officiating.
