Loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Sue Stanton Gaines, 64, of Lumberton, NC, a retired North Carolina state employee, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at UNC Health Southeastern. She was born in Lumberton, NC on October 6, 1957 to the late Wendell Morrison Stanton, Sr. and the late Agnes Byrd Stanton.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Wendell Morrison "Stan" Stanton, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Brandon Gaines (Kevin Radtke) of Hopewell, NJ; her daughter, Brittany Waddell (Joey) of Lumberton; a sister, Ann Pittman (Bobby) of Lumberton; two grandchildren, Landon and Cooper Waddell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

Friends of Sue remember her contagious smile, fabulous sense of fashion, strong work ethic, and willingness to help everyone. Sue found joy in spending time with family and friends, going to the beach and eating delicious seafood, and watching every Duke basketball game.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, from 2:30-4:00 p.m. at Floyd Memorial Chapel, 809 East 5 ^th Street in Lumberton. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Harold Salmon officiating.

Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton.
