Solomon "Dick" Herring, age 79, of Lumberton, NC passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. He was born in Dillon, SC on May 14, 1934 to the late William Charlie Herring and the late Rachel Allen Herring. He formerly worked as the service foreman for the City of Lumberton Electric Utilities Department. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters. Mr. Herring is survived by his wife, Shirley White Herring of the home; son, William S.S. Herring and wife, Vickie of Lumberton; daughters, Kimberly Herring Smith and husband, Neal of St. Pauls, Bethany H. Herring and Leah S. Herring both of Lumberton; brother, William Jim Herring and wife, Ruth of Laurel Hill; sisters, Haley H. Jones of Dillon SC and Helon W. Herring of Hamer, SC; grandchildren, Stephen L. Conser, W. Brandon Conser, Lindsey N. Herring, Amanda T. Herring, Joshua W. Herring, and Megan J. Smith; five foster grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; special nieces, Normie Turbeville of Dillon, SC, Jennie Turbeville of Dillon, SC, and Jennie Lou McGrady of Lilesville, NC; and special friends, Bob and Frances Scott and Carol W. Powers all of Lumberton. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street in Lumberton. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Chestnut Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Little officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chestnut Street United Methodist Church Building Fund, 200 East 8th Street, Lumberton, NC 28358.
