Shirley Walters Barbee, 84, of Effingham, SC, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday afternoon, June 23, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Ms. Barbee was born on March 14, 1937 in Robeson County, NC and she graduated from Fairmont High School. She attended Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, NC.

She began her career as a secretary for an insurance company in Robeson County, and later became a licensed agent. She then continued her secretarial profession in Columbia, SC. Her greatest accomplishment was her calling to serve the Lord. She did missionary work with her late husband, David Barbee, in Haiti from 1984-1987. She continued her missionary work up until her passing. Together, they established a radio career called "Lighthouse of Love Ministries", where their goal was to bring joy to others through music exalting Christ our Savior.

Ms. Barbee was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Catherine Walters; her husband of 28 years, David Barbee; her siblings, Jean Floyd and Randy Walters.

She was survived by her siblings: Lance Walters, Linnie Lawson, Ada Ellis, Cathey Foley and Eric Walters; her four children: Terry Floyd and wife Donna of Lumberton, NC, and Joan Floyd, Janet Sylvester, and Gayle Harllee and husband David, all of Florence, SC. She had seven grandchildren: Jamison Floyd, Kelly Atkinson and husband Chad, Kristin Poston and husband Shane, Dale Sylvester and wife Kristin, Adam Sylvester, Loren Long and wife Christi and Amber Long. She also had two great-grandchildren, Ren and Mac Long.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel, 809 E. 5 ^th Street in Lumberton, NC, with Pastor Lance Walters officiating. Interment will follow at the Walters Family Cemetery in Barnesville, NC.
