Sherrill Chappell Powell, age 72, of Lumberton, passed away Monday, December 17, 2018, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. She was born on September 20, 1946, to the late Jasper Chappell and the late Nora Chappell.

She was a homemaker and she loved to cook and can foods and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A special thanks goes out to her granddaughter, Jessica "Nikki" Parker and husband Shaun, who stepped in as her caregivers when Mrs. Powell's health began to decline.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Sgt. Charles Edward Powell, Sr., who was a disabled Vietnam veteran; two sons: Dana James Powell and Charles Powell, Jr.; and a brother, Gary A. Chappell.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Jenean Mousseau; one brother, Jasper "J.R." Chappell; one sister, Carol Towes; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, December 22, 2018, from 1:00-3:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc. in Lumberton.

Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM in the Chapel with Rev. Austin Chappell officiating. Burial will follow at New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton.
