Shelby Rowland Hicks, 85, of Lumberton, died Friday, June 3, 2022, at UNC Southeastern Health in Lumberton, NC.

She was born on September 16, 1936, in Robeson County to the late Woodrow and Elsie Newell Rowland of Lumberton. Shelby was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She proudly served the community for 30 years with the Lumberton Housing Authority and retired as their Director of Conventional Housing Operations. She enjoyed life, loved to dance and be with friends, but her greatest joy was spending time and sharing meals with her family.

Along with her parents she is also preceded in death by a brother, John Wayne Rowland; a brother-in-law, James "Jimmy" Davis; a sister-in-law, Rebecca "Becky" Rowland; a daughter, Mary Lee Powers; a granddaughter, Jamie Ray Poythress; and a great-granddaughter, Shelly Renea Elliott.

She is survived by her sister, Pattie Sue Davis of Lumberton; a daughter, Christle Hicks Baxley of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; granddaughters, Andrea Jean Powers and Amanda Kaye Meares (Aaron) all of Lumberton, Marianne Alicia Glenn (Greyson) of Grey's Creek, Charlee Rebecca Baxley (Ryan) of Ocean Isle Beach, and Gracie Baxley Young (Sam) of Ash; her great-grandchildren, Malikye Poythress, Myles Meares, Coleton Meares, and Everett Young; several nieces, nephews and her cherished friends.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory Inc., in Lumberton.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, June 6, 2022, at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton, with the Rev. Gary Rowe officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
