Obituary

Sarah Small Ciszewski, 91, of Rock Hill, South Carolina passed away Tuesday, June 20th, 2017.  She was the daughter of the late John Albert Small and Catherine Bullock Small. Mrs. Ciszewski was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ciszewski of Queens, New York, her parents, a brother, Horace G. Small of New Orleans, Louisiana, and a sister, Sue Nell Malion of Fairmont, North Carolina.

She was a graduate of Fairmont High School and an avid singer, participating in school and church choirs.  Prior to her retirement, she worked as a dental assistant in Fairmont and Queens, and as a sales person for Best and Company in Manhattan. Sarah lived at Chandler Place and was a beloved and respected member of that residential community. She served her colleagues through work on the Resident Council as chairperson of Community Relations.  She was a dedicated member of the Chandler Place Chorus, Bible Study class, Prayer Ministry, and loved to knit scarves for her many friends.  Her sincere care for others was obvious to all, as was her keen interest in and knowledge of music, religion, current events, and politics; a topic that typically elicited an acerbic witticism.

Mrs. Ciszewski is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William F. Malambri, Jr. and Rebecca O. Malambri of Rock Hill, two granddaughters, Maria M. Hedinger and husband Eric of Charlotte, and Anna O. Malambri of Rock Hill, a grandson, William F. Malambri III and wife Sally of Florence, South Carolina, and four great-grandchildren, Emma C. Hedinger, William M. Malambri, William O. Hedinger, and Annagray M. Malambri.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday, June 23rd at the Bullock Family Cemetery near Fairmont, North Carolina.  Floyd Funeral Home in Fairmont is in charge of funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Sarah requested memorials in her honor be sent to the Carolinas Wind Orchestra, an active professional wind band founded by her son. Memorial gifts to this organization are tax-deductible. Carolinas Wind Orchestra, 305 Circle Avenue Charlotte, North Carolina 28207
