Sarah Frances Oxendine Chavis, age 90, of Fairmont, NC, passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, at Wesley Pines Retirement Center in Lumberton, NC. She was born on November 8, 1930 to the late Archie Oxendine and AJ Oxendine.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curley Chavis; a son, Bobby Oxendine; a daughter, Deloris Oxendine; a granddaughter, Sonja Purcell; two brothers, Clifford Oxendine and James A. Oxendine; and a sister, Nona Hunt.

She is survived by two sisters, Janie McFarland and husband Joe of Fairmont, NC and Vista Cain and husband Sam of St. Pauls, NC; three grandchildren: Michele Smith and husband Smitty, Denise Garrison and husband Jay, and Derek Oxendine; and four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends.

We especially would like to thank Wesley Pines and Community Hospice for the care they have given to grandma.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Fairmont, NC with Rev. Howard Jacobs officiating.
