Sara Adams Oliver Henry was born on October 31, 1928, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to John Harvey Oliver, Sr., and Martha Anderson Oliver. She passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at The Woodlands at Furman in Greenville, South Carolina.
Sara married Everett Lawrence Henry of Lumberton, North Carolina, on November 17, 1962. They made their home in Lumberton, where they raised their family and lived until 2021.
She attended Converse College and graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After teaching school for one year in Rose Hill, North Carolina, she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at El Toro, California, as a Captain for three years. Upon returning to Fayetteville, she worked for the Department of Social Services and later completed her Master of Social Work degree at the University of North Carolina in 1960.
Sara was introduced to Everett Henry, an attorney from Lumberton, by dear friends Mary and Bill McMillan. After their marriage, they were blessed with three daughters: Lucy Henry (Beth Kelly), Elizabeth Sides (Kevin Sides), and Sara Everett Henry, who predeceased her in 2019. Everett passed away in 2004. Sara was also the proud grandmother of Matthew Henry Sides, born in 2004.
In Lumberton, Sara was active in many community and social organizations, including The Colonial Dames, The Gardenettes, her beloved book club, and several bridge groups. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Lumberton.
After leaving Lumberton in 2021, Sara resided at The Woodlands at Furman, where she lived until her death. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Assisted Living, Skilled Care at the Woodlands at Furman, and Interim Hospice for their compassionate care over the past four years, as well as to the staff of GlenFlora in Lumberton, who cared for her from 2018 to 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett; her daughter, Sara Everett Henry; her sister, Lucy Oliver Myers, her brother, John Harvey Oliver, Jr.; and two nephews, Harvey Myers and Harvey Oliver III.
