Samuel "Sammy" Grey Callahan, age 71, of Lumberton, NC, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024, at his home. He was born in Robeson County, NC on January 9, 1953, to the late Albert & Hattie Callahan.

Sammy will always be remembered as someone who loved cars and fishing. However, he loved nothing more than his late wife, Janet, whom he was married to for over 40 years. They are now joined together in heaven.

Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Barnowski; his brothers: Ed Callahan, Ronald Curley Callahan, Lavern Callahan, Richard Callahan, Jerry Callahan, and Bill Callahan; and his sister, Lily Mae Hoppe.

He is survived by his daughters, Samantha Callahan and Crystal Callahan and husband Ethan Simmons, all of Lumberton, NC; his grandchildren, Erin Barnowski of Baltimore, MD and Dakoda Dickson of AL; and his sisters: Gail Little, Linda Callahan, and Wanda Callahan, all of Lumberton, NC.

The family would like to recognize his caregiver, Kathy Loman, and her family who always treated Sammy like he was their own. Also, a very special friend, Joey Hucks, who Sammy considered to be his son.

The family will continue to receive friends at 3050 Alamac Road, Lot 19, in Lumberton, NC from now until Friday at 8:00 PM.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
