Ruth Edwards Powell Fields, 87, of Lumberton died on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. She was born in Robeson County, NC on October 11, 1923 to the late Emory Edwards and Fronia Willoughby Edwards.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Lewis Herbert Powell and second husband, George A. Fields; son, Billy Powell; daughter, Catherine Owens; step-daughters, Cassie Clemmons and Katie Martin; brother, Dan Edwards; and sisters, Flossie Warwick and Margaret Hilburn.

Mrs. Fields is survived by her sons, Tommy Powell of Lumberton and Walter Spaeth and wife Kelly of St. Cloud, FL; step-son, Horace Cole Powell and wife Carolyn of Charlotte; daughter, Carolyn Powell Walters of Laurinburg; sister, Hettie Elkins of Wilmington; seventeen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton with Rev. Hal Culberson officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton.

Visitation will be prior to the service on Monday, September 26, 2011 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton.
