On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, Ruth Chappell Britt passed away as a result of a recent illness.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Britt and his wife Kathie; Jerry's son, Michael and his wife Amy, as well as her great-grandkids, Aubrey and Maddox; Jerry's daughter, Kristina, and her great-granddaughter, Emeila; her sister, Carol, who has spent countless days and weeks watching over her these past few years; and Walter Davis, Ruth's nephew, and his entire family, in addition to her nieces, Kim and Donna, and nephew, J.R. Chappell. She is also survived by very special friends: Jennifer Heath, Lindsey Godwin, and Judy Gullie who have helped take care of her since the passing of Brenda, her daughter.

Additionally, there are hundreds of friends who were touched by her during her time in Lumberton.

She attended First Baptist Church and raised her children, Jerry and Brenda (deceased), in the church where her late husband, Ellery J. Britt, also served as a teacher and Deacon.  She served in the church in many different capacities as well as volunteering at Southeastern General for years. Additionally, she and her husband often assisted complete strangers traveling in the area that needed some type of financial assistance to complete their journey. She was also a member of the Glen Flora Circle.

She was a strong supporter of Hypophosphatasia (HPP), which is a non-curable disease that her great-granddaughter was born with and survives today.

Ruth was the daughter of the late Walter L. & Martha P. Chappell and was predeceased by her brothers: Jasper, Clifton, W.L., and James.

The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Friday, May 5, 2023, from 2:00-3:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel, 809 E. 5 ^th Street in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM with Rev. Joe Bounds officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Faith Cemetery, 5190 N. Fayetteville Road in Lumberton, NC.
