Rufus Ernest "Buddy" Holmes, age 67, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at his home in Lumberton. He was born in Scotland County, NC on December 13, 1948.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Holmes of the home; one son, Kevin "Shayne" Holmes of the home; a special son, Gary Wayne Chavis of St. Pauls NC; one daughter Tammy Taylor and Jimmy of Lumberton; two brothers, Rex Holmes and Ann of Lumberton and Anthony "Ankie" Holmes and Jessie of Charlotte; five sisters, Kay Hicks and Don of Charlotte, Gail Edwards and Robert, Libby Kizar and Lonnie, Mantha Harper and Byron, and Joyce Hunt and H.B., all of Lumberton; four grandchildren Nicole, Makenze, Madison, and Cameron; a special grandchild, Charlee; one great-grandchild, S.J. "Hot Rod"; and a host of nephews nieces and friends.

A time of visitation will take place on Saturday, March 12, 2016, from 7:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday March 13, 2016 at 2:00 PM at East Lumberton Church of God with Revs. Bruce Brumfield and Jeff Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow at New Hollywood Cemetery.
