Richard Lee
Meadows
Jul 28, 1964 — Jul 6, 2026
Ft. Bragg
Richard Lee Meadows of Lumberton, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and family. Born on July 28, 1964, Richard was affectionately known as "Peanut" by his family throughout his childhood.
He is survived by his sons, Andrew and Daniel Meadows; the mother of his children, Mary Meadows; his beloved grandchildren, Jeffrey, Alyssa, Colton, Nate, Adalyn, Wesley, Lorelai, and Jet; his sisters, Lorraine Faye McKinney Dunn and Darlene Kay McKinney DiGrazia; and his brother, Raymond "Rocky" Meadows. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Kay James (Kemp), and his sister, Lisa May Meadows.
Richard faced many challenges throughout his life. Yet, he never let those challenges stifle the person beneath the exterior. Richard was an incredibly bright, thoughtful, and creative man; a side of him that a fortunate few were gifted the chance to truly know.
A unique soul, Richard was passionate about learning and exploring the broader ideas of the universe. However, his love of learning about the world as it was, often paled in comparison to his love for what the world could be. Richard loved the endless possibilities he found in the stories of characters like the Bionic Man, Maxwell Smart, Spider-Man, The Flash, Doctor Who, and many others. While he would never say it, those close to him believe he saw a reflection of himself in these heroes; a seemingly ordinary man, often underestimated, who would overcome an impossible set of circumstances using only his hidden wit and unwavering resilience. He often of characters of his own creation, whom he planned to write a book about one day.
Richard was known for his immense work ethic and dedication performing in various roles throughout his lifetime. Yet, the role he was most proud of, and would most want to be remembered for, was that of a grandfather. With his fridge covered in their pictures and his heart filled with their memories, he loved his grandchildren deeply. Watching them grow was the greatest honor of his life.
