Richard "Dick"
Donald Geibert
Jun 16, 1939 — Jul 24, 2024
Lumberton
Richard "Dick" Geibert, age 85, of Lumberton passed away on July 24, 2024. Dick was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 16, 1939 to the late Frederick Peter and Helen Kist Geibert. Dick grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and returned to Long Island, New York in 1957, where he spent some time in the U.S. Army Reserves and later married his wife, Kathleen Foy, in 1963.
Dick and his family moved to North Carolina in 1978 when his company, Flair Fold, tasked him with opening a plant in Lumberton.
Dick's family was his pride and joy. He enjoyed watching his children participate in all that they loved to do growing up…from traveling all over New York State cheering them on at their AAU swim meets, to developing and coaching youth soccer in Lumberton so that all three of his children could play soccer. Dick was also instrumental in establishing the inaugural Lumberton Sr. High School Soccer Team so his sons could continue to play the sport they enjoyed so much.
When he wasn't watching his sons play soccer, baseball or basketball, he was watching his daughter cheer on the Lumberton Vikings and Pirates from the bleachers and traveling with her to gymnastics meets throughout North Carolina.
Once his children were grown, Dick enjoyed all the same fun activities with his grandson, Brandon, every chance he could get. Dick always beamed with pride when talking about his grandson and all his many accomplishments!
On May 11, 2024 Dick and his wife, Kathleen, celebrated their milestone 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Another milestone for Dick was celebrating his 85th birthday on June 16, 2024, which also happened to fall on Father's Day this year! His family was grateful to have that special time with him.
Besides his family, Dick's other passion in life was his business. Dick (and Kathleen) owned and operated Parnell Pool & Spa for 40 years, buying the company in 1984, with two locations in Lumberton and Fayetteville, North Carolina. Upon graduating from college, Dick's son, Douglas, joined the business and father & son worked side by side for the next 35 years. In 2019, Dick's daughter, Kathy, joined the family business as well.
Even on oxygen and using a scooter to get around, Dick still managed to work six days a week up until he turned 85 years and 37 days old, the day prior to his passing. With that said, Dick's employees and customers were very important to him and he enjoyed chatting and catching up with them on a daily basis! His presence will be greatly missed at Parnell Pool & Spa.
Outside of his family and business, Dick also enjoyed having breakfast at Hardees on Friday mornings with his group of friends and dinner at Adelio's on Saturday nights with his wife, Kathleen, and their group of friends.
An avid golfer back in the day, Dick enjoyed playing golf with his longtime friend, golfing "buddy" and, at times, arch-nemesis, Robert "Bob" Whritenour. Their antics on the course amused many!
Dick's hobbies included stamp collecting, gardening and puzzles. During the pandemic, Dick put together several puzzles that are now framed and hanging in different locations for family and friends to enjoy.
Dick is survived by his wife, Kathleen Foy Geibert; daughter, Kathleen "Kathy" Geibert; sons, Richard "Rich" Geibert and Douglas "Doug" Geibert; and grandson, Brandon Richard Geibert.
