Retha Byrd Brown, age 88, of Lumberton, NC died on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Linkhaw Place in Lumberton. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary Benton Byrd, born September 10, 1921 in Robeson County, NC. She previously worked as a Registered Nurse at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

She was predeced in death by her parents; her husband, Julius Barney Brown; a sister, Daisy Byrd Royal; two brothers, William \\"Boss\\" Byrd and Henry Byrd; and a son, James Henry Brown.

Mrs. Brown is survived by two daughters, Linda Brown Smith of Lumberton, NC and Jeanette Brown Phillips of Fairmont, NC; one son, William Leroy Brown of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren and special grandchild, Samantha S. Davis, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 2:00 PM at New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton with Rev. Bruce Brumfield officiating. A time for visitation will follow the service.
