Raymond Lee Stevens, Jr., 78, of Lumberton, NC, passed away on January 7, 2023, after a brief illness. Lee was born on January 19, 1944, to the late Elizabeth Nance Stevens and Raymond Lee Stevens, Sr. in Lumberton, NC. After graduating from Lumberton High School, he studied business at Pembroke State University.

Lee spent his entire career at Scottish Packing Company, first working for his father-in-law and later becoming owner, until it was destroyed by Hurricane Matthew in 2016. Although he loved his career at Scottish Packing, his true love was politics. Lee was involved in many campaigns throughout his life and he enjoyed nothing more than the many hours he spent in conversation, forming lifelong friendships along the way.

Lee married Glenda Earl Freeman, daughter of Robert Earl Freeman, Sr. and Mabel McKenzie Freeman, on June 2, 1966. Having met at the Lumberton River Ranch many years earlier, Lee and Glenda's mutual love of horses continued throughout their marriage until her death in 1995. Lee and Glenda went on to have three children: Lee Stevens (Bill) of Washington, D.C., Stacey Conway (Aaron) of Jacksonville, NC, and Daniel Stevens of Wadsworth, OH.

Along with his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Freeman Stevens, and a brother, Wayne Thomas Stevens.

In addition to his children, Lee is survived by his stepson, Ryne Marks (Jessica); a brother, Mitchell Stevens of Pensacola, FL; and seven grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton, NC.  The family will be available for visitation following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Lumberton.  PO Box: 2067, Lumberton, NC 28359
