Ralph "Carey" Smith, Jr., age 54, of Lumberton, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024 at Woodhaven Nursing Center in Lumberton.  He was born on Robeson County, NC on April 17, 1970.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Jean Carter.

Carey grew up in Lumberton and was raised by his aunt and uncle, Albert P. Smith and Sudie Smith, who both preceded him in death, and grew up alongside their children, Albert P. Smith, Jr. (Paula) and Beverly Smith Norton (Terry), all of Lumberton.

He is also survived by his father, Ralph Carey Smith, Sr. (Donna) of Pembroke; two brothers, Thomas Earl Smith, Sr. of Pembroke and Michael Smith of Charlotte; two sisters, Annette Smith Davis of Lumberton and Donna Lynn Woriax of Pembroke; his step-sister, Melba Bullard of Pembroke and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Woodhaven Nursing Center for the care, compassion and love they provided to him over the years.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Harpers Ferry Baptist Church Cemetery (10355 Deep Branch Road, Pembroke, NC 28372) with Pastor Lawrence Garner officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering c/o Godwin Heights Baptist Church, 704 Godwin Ave., Lumberton, NC 28358.
