Mrs. Peggy Joann Owens Townsend, 80, of Lumberton, NC, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, NC. she was born in Robeson County, NC on January 8, 1941 to the late Howard Owens and the late Margaret Davis Owens.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Thomas Townsend, and a brother, Henry Paul Owens.

She is survived by her son, Sam Townsend and wife Linda of Lumberton, NC; her daughter, Margaret Rising and husband Ricky of Bladenboro, NC; three grandchildren: Waylon Rising, Jason Townsend, and Eric Townsend; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Alton Owens of Lumberton; two sisters, Shirley Richardson and husband Edward of Sneads Ferry, NC and Wanda Bailey of Baltimore, MD; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Owens of Stedman, NC.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 2:00-3:00 PM at Raft Swamp Baptist Church, 2766 NC Hwy 72 West in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM with Rev. Mark Hall officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Raft Swamp Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice in her honor.
