Peggy Byrd Smith, age 85, of Fairmont, NC passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

She was born May 20, 1940 in Robeson County to the late Carson Byrd and the late Mary Leona Jackson Byrd.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Wade Smith; brothers, Thomas Byrd, Jr., Billy Byrd, JT Byrd, John Byrd, and Kenneth Byrd; and sisters, Sandra Faye and Shelby Pittman.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Susan McLellan (Tony), Kevin Smith (Mary Lewis), and Keith Smith; her grandchildren, Tray McLellan (Brooke), Brandi Odom (Will), Kiley (Zach), Layne, Marley and Neal Walters; great-grandchildren, Wade and Luke Odom, Sunny Ray and Katie Sue McLellan and Harrison Grace; a sister, Diane Musselwhite; a brother, Michael Byrd and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Baltimore Baptist Church, 171 Baltimore Church Road, Fairmont. The funeral will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00 PM. Burial will also follow n Floyd Memorial Cemetery, 1591 Marion Stage Road, Fairmont.
