Peggy Smith Edens was born in Robeson County to Margaret Downing McNeill Smith and William Austin Smith on November 15, 1921.  She died March 26, 2024.

She was the last of her generation, having lost parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, friends, and her husband of thirty-five years, Thomas L. Edens.

Peggy lived her long life as a Christian woman, a devout Presbyterian, who was rich in the gifts of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness, fidelity, and self-control.  Her presence was quietly radiant with these, and she faced life with a sense of humor, lively intelligence, sincere interest in other people, and personal courage.  We are grateful beyond measure to have loved her and been loved by her.

She is survived by daughter Peggy Edens McLean and son-in-law Graham, a sister-in-law, and much-loved nieces and nephews.
