Obituary

Mrs. Pearl Kinlaw Stanley, age 105, wife of 52 years of the late Carlos E. Stanley entered into eternal rest Thursday, April 30, 2015. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at 3:00 PM at Centerville Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 2:00-3:00 PM, at Centerville Baptist Church. Born July 7, 1909 in Robeson County, Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her parents, William D. Kinlaw and Cassie Taylor Kinlaw; one son, Billy Stanley; and seven siblings: Dock, Brandy, and Malcolm Kinlaw, Harriet Bryant, Emma Barker, Mamie Smith, and Lula Kinlaw. She is survived by her daughter, Ann (Jimmy) Casey of Florence, SC; her son's fiancé, Betty Lawson of Lumberton; four grandchildren: Terri (Lou) Cunningham and Sidney Stanley, all of Charlotte, Kelvie (Michael) Reese of Florence, SC, and Cliff (Cindy) Casey of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and four great-grandchildren: Bryce and Meredith Reese and Collin and Caitlyn Casey. In addition, she is survived by a faithful friend and "honorary daughter," Annie Ruth Leggett. Mrs. Stanley will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends and her ongoing love for her church, in which she was the oldest member and was honored by the church on her 100th birthday. She sang in the church choir well into her 90's and was an excellent cook who enjoyed serving on the Food Service Committee of the church. Mrs. Stanley was also a skilled seamstress and enjoyed needlecraft. She was an avid gardener, as well, growing vegetables and flowers, especially roses. Though she loved her home, at 95, per her doctor's advice, she gracefully moved to Wesley Pines Assisted Living where she made many new friends with the residents and staff. Mrs. Stanley exalted life-long virtues of resourcefulness, hard work, integrity, and honesty. When interviewed and asked on her 100th birthday to what she attributed her longevity, she replied "Living for the Lord and hard work." The family of Pearl Stanley is grateful for the countless expressions of condolence and sympathy. In obedience with her wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Centerville Baptist Church, 3428 NC Hwy 41 South, Lumberton, NC 28358.
