Obituary

Henry Paul Stone, Jr., of Lumberton, NC passed away Saturday April 26, 2025. Paul was born in Wilmington, NC on May 23, 1945, to Henry Paul Stone, Sr. and Amie Sutton Stone.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Dyanne PreVatte Stone; four children: Mark Stone of Harrisonburg, VA, Betsy Casanave (Eddie) of Cary, NC, Dawn Stone of Wilmington, NC, and Laura Collins (Rian) of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; one sister, Gail Stone Johnson of Lumberton, NC; grandchildren: Matthew Pleasant, Oliver Hargadon (Rae Pleasant), Samuel Pleasant, Seth Pleasant, Abbagail Pleasant; one sister-in-law, Betty Lynne Montgomery; one brother-in-law, Alan PreVatte (Sheila); and a host of loving and beloved nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

Paul graduated from Lumberton High School in 1963. He was dedicated to and excelled at whatever the task at hand was, including hunting, fishing, golfing, water-skiing, fast-moving cars, and shag dancing. Paul spent many enjoyable summers at White Lake water skiing. He could ski barefoot, made his own ramps to jump, and even formed team pyramids. Paul was no stranger to the golf course whether it was playing with one or more friends or working as the Pro. For many years, Paul organized golf tournaments to raise money for Hospice.

Paul was known for his smooth footwork on the shag dance floor. If Paul knew a lady no longer had her partner to dance with, he would invite her to the dance floor to join him. However, one special song, "Lady Soul", was reserved for the love of his life. Nothing made Dyanne and Paul happier than dancing together to their song. Paul was very creative and skilled with his hands often designing and building unique and helpful projects. Paul held various jobs throughout his life, from building boats to pipe fitting to drafting pipe work plans. Paul spent 17 years serving in the U.S. Army National Guard.

The family would like to express our sincere appreciation for your love and support during this time.
