Oliver Yates Stephens, age 80, of Fairmont, NC, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025 at home with his loving daughter and wife of 52 years by his side. He was born on February 20, 1944, in Fairmont, where he spent his life surrounded by family and friends.

Yates is survived by his devoted wife, Rebecca Starnes Stephens; his beloved daughter, Tracye Stephens Jackle and spouse, Ryan Jackle; his brother, John Marvin Stephens; nieces, nephews; his dog "Jake," and many dear friends.

After graduating from Pembroke State University with degrees in Business and Political Science, Yates worked for RJ Reynolds, formerly known as Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation, for over 40 years. A dedicated and hardworking man, he also spent many summers working with Cates Cucumber Market, where he found joy in the work and the camaraderie of those around him.

Yates had a deep love for nature and spent much of his time tending to his cherished gardens and greenhouses. A skilled farmer, he took pride in nurturing the land and watching things grow from seed to harvest. He was also an avid fisherman, enjoying countless hours on the Black River and at Ocean Isle Beach with his family and friends.

Yates' legacy lives on in the love and memories he leaves behind. His dedication to family, his passions for farming and fishing, and his kind and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A time of visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 6:00-8:00PM at Floyd Funeral Services, 1549 Marion Stage Road, Fairmont.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 2:00PM at Floyd Memorial Cemetery in Fairmont with Charlie Jones III officiating.
