Odell Blackwell of Lumberton North Carolina, passed away on August 31st, 2026 at the age of eighty.

Born on March 29th 1946, Odell was a hardworking and resourceful man who was rarely without an idea for how to earn a living. Throughout his life he wore many hats and was always looking for the next opportunity – a quality that remained a defining part of who he was throughout his life.

Odell found Jesus at a young age, and his faith became something he leaned on throughout life. Through the many seasons and changes that life brought, his relationship with the Lord remained a source of strength and comfort to him.

Among the things he treasured most was time spent with his family. Each year, he looked forward to their annual trip to the mountains, a tradition that brought him great joy and created many memories that his family will continue to cherish.

He is survived by his two sons, Mark and Gordon Blackwell; his daughters-in-law Marie and Susan Blackwell, his siblings, Bobby, JW, and Glenda; as well as his grandchildren, Carmen, Cailtin, and Chloe Blackwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Inez and Gordon Blackwell; his wife, Cathy Blackwell; and his siblings Earl and Berniece.

Odell lived a life marked by hard work, determination, faith, and a desire to provide for himself and those around him. His family will remember not only the life he built, but the traditions, stories, and memories he leaves behind.

A time of visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary and Crematory, 809 E. 5th St. Lumberton, NC.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Floyd Memorial Chapel with Rev. James Graham officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, St. Pauls, NC.
