Norman C. Warwick, 84, of Lumberton, departed this life Wednesday, November 2, 2016, after an extended illness. A Lumberton native, he was born February 9, 1932, to the late Archie and Mamie Wilkins Warwick, and was educated in the Robeson County schools.
A veteran of the Korean War, Norman served with the U.S. Army in Washington, D.C., from 1950 to 1952. Following his service, he moved to Long Island, NY, where he resided until 1973.
In 1967, Norman met the former Doris Dickson of the Bronx, NY, who would become the love of his life. The two married on July 11, 1970, and brought with them four children each from earlier marriages, creating a boisterous but tightly bound family of eight. Together, they would have one more child, Thomas Neal Warwick, born May 7, 1972, in the Bronx.
The combined family returned to Norman's home town in 1973, becoming members of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church and enjoying a large circle of family and friends. Norman and Doris presided together over a home full of love, laughter and an ever-changing collection of kids, teens, adults and cats and dogs. There were no strangers at the Warwick home.
After Norman retired from a successful sales career, he and Doris realized their lifelong dream of RV living, traveling south to Myrtle Beach and north to visit children and family, collecting friends and memories as they went. They returned to Lumberton and took up residence at Baker House Apartments in 2001, where their welcoming open-door policy resumed.
In 2012, Norman's declining health necessitated his move to Golden Living in Lumberton, where Doris visited daily and often entertained with her line-dancing group. A picture of what marriage truly means, Norman and Doris became favorites of the staff, some of whom became like second family.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Mamie Warwick; sister Letha; brothers Carl, Maurice and James; daughter Linda; and sons Billy and Norman, Jr. Left to mourn his passing are his devoted wife of 46 years, Doris; sons Jack Stack and wife Maryann of Queens, NY, Bobby Stack and wife Joanie of Queens, NY, and Tom Warwick and wife Sarah of Mt. Holly, NC; daughters Susan Stack Rogers and husband Joe of Littleton, MA, and Doris Stack Murphy and husband, Sean, of Saylorsburg, PA; and seven grandchildren: Bill Warwick, John Stack, Danielle Riley, Joey Rogers, Dillon Murphy, Sean Murphy, and Lily Warwick.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 4, 2016, 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary in Lumberton.
A Funeral Mass will follow on Saturday, November 5, 2016, 11:00 AM at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, 2000 Elizabethtown Road in Lumberton.
Norman's family wishes to thank the staff of Golden Living for their years of care and compassion.
Donations in Norman's memory may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 2402 N. Roberts Avenue, Lumberton.
