Mrs. Nora Dean Hunt of Fairmont, North Carolina, departed this life on Friday, December 16, 2022, surrounded by family and friends, completing her journey of 74 years. She was born in Robeson County on October 18, 1948 to the late James Dallie Hunt and the late Sallie Jane Hunt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: James A. Hunt, James D. Hunt, and William F. "Pete" Hunt.

Mrs. Hunt leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 38 years, Don Hunt; her children, Carla J. Hunt of Fairmont, NC and Adrienne Barnes and husband Cory Barnes of Rowland, NC; her grandchildren: Aydin D. Hunt, Chaston D. Barnes, and Lillian K. Barnes; her sister, Ima J. Oxendine of Rowland, NC; and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Hunt worked for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety in Adult Corrections for 49 years. She began her career in 1972 as a clerk and stenographer at McCain Correctional Center and moved through the ranks to become the Warden of Columbus Correctional Institution in 2003 and served in that position until her retirement date of December 1, 2017. Mrs. Hunt was an advocate for the Special Olympics during her years of service at Columbus Correctional Institution. Mrs. Hunt also received the following awards: The Order of the Long Leaf Pine and The Distinguished Richard Caswell Award presented by the Governors of North Carolina.

If you knew Mrs. Hunt, you knew she was a collector of many things to include her Native American figurine collection, Santa Claus collection, and, because her granddaughter loved horses, she began collecting "The Trail of Painted Ponies." Mrs. Hunt was a member of the South Robeson Elders Group out of Rowland, NC. Mrs. Nora Dean Hunt was one of a kind and will be remembered as such. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and just a good friend.

A time of visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 427 Gaddy Road in Fairmont, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. Howard Jacobs, Bishop Kenny Mitchell, and Rev. Crafton Chavis officiating.
