Mrs. Nancy Burns Britt, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at her home in Kinston, NC.  She was born May 6 th , 1935 and passed just before her 87 th Birthday.  Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Isabel Edwards Guizzetti and Stepfather, Gino Guizzetti of Lumberton; and husband of 62 years, Lenox Britt of Kinston, NC.

Mrs. Britt is survived by daughter, Emily Leigh Britt of Kinston, NC; a son, Lennox Gregory Britt and husband Paul McMillen of Greenville, NC; a granddaughter, Sarah Baker Dalrymple of Gastonia, NC; and a grandson, Andrew Lenox Patterson of Raleigh, NC.

For 65 years, Nancy and her beloved husband, Lenox, resided in Lumberton, NC, and were loyal members of the First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Britt graduated from Lumberton High School in 1953 as Valedictorian and from Duke University in January, 1957 as an Elementary Education Honor Graduate (Phi Beta Kappa).

Mrs. Britt began her teaching career at Wiley School in Raleigh, NC in 1957.  Soon, Nancy returned to Lumberton where she taught for a brief period at Rowland-Norment Elementary School and at West Lumberton School.  The bulk of her teaching career of over 30 years was in the First Grade at Tanglewood Elementary School while also serving as Principal during Tanglewood's Accreditation Program.

Mrs. Britt always said of her career, "What a privilege it is to be able to see the world through the eyes of a first grader!"

During her teaching career, Nancy was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and was awarded the Outstanding Young Educator's Award, NC Teacher of the Year, and the Terry Sanford Award for Creative Teaching.

Some of Mrs. Britt's special interests were writing for the Robeson County Heritage Museum Project and participating in countless creative poetry performances with her teacher friends at weddings, engagements, and community events.

In 2009, she and her husband, Lenox, relocated to Kinston, NC to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In Kinston, Mrs. Britt continued her service as an active member of the First Baptist Church, Rouse Road.  She served as a teacher of the Faith Sunday School Class, a member of the Jean Dickson Mission Group and a member of the Joy Singers!

Nancy was deeply spiritual and measured her success by living well, laughing often, and loving her family and friends. She always attempted to leave each person and situation better than she found it and always looked for the best in every person.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the special caregivers for their kindness, care and compassion that allowed Nancy to stay at home and age gracefully.

A private family burial and interment will be held at Gardens of Faith Cemetery, 5190 Fayetteville Road in Lumberton, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to either of the aforementioned Baptist Churches, the Lenoir County SPCA at 2455 Rouse Road, Kinston, NC 28504 or Friends of the Homeless Shelter at 112 N. Independence St., Kinston, NC 28501.
