Mickey Charles
Stoker
Jun 27, 1959 — Dec 13, 2024
Fayetteville
Mickey Charles Stoker, 65, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024. He was born on June 27, 1959, in Lumberton, NC, and carried with him a passion for running, education, and making connections throughout his life.
Mickey's accomplishments on the track and field and cross-country courses began in high school at Lumberton Senior High, where he was a two-time conference champion in track and field, a conference and regional champion in cross country, and named all-state in both sports. His love for the sport continued during his time at Pembroke State University, where he was an all-conference and all-regional member in track and field, as well as part of the 1978 National Championship cross-country team and the national runner-up team. As a coach, Mickey instilled determination, discipline, and passion into the lives of his runners, leading several conference championships and two state championship teams.
Mickey's commitment to education was evident in his career as a teacher and later as an assistant principal. His dedication to helping others was evident to all who knew him. Mickey was the kind of man who never met a stranger and could always be counted on to share a joke, offer a warm smile, or lend a helping hand. His generosity knew no bounds—whether you needed a laugh, a coat, or a plate of food, Mickey was always there. His love of music, especially Motown, and his appreciation for good food live on in his daughters and granddaughters.
Mickey's love for his family was unparalleled. He is survived by his three daughters: Meghann Stoker, Courtney Burr and husband Justin, and Samantha Michel and husband Brendan; two beloved grandchildren, Lorelai and Violet Burr; former wife, Minnie Stoker; his twin brother, Rickey Stoker and wife Elaine; his half-sisters, Crystal Glisson Pierson and husband Alan and Lorie Glisson Thompson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ava Grace Phillips Glisson and Charles Edward Stoker; his grandparents, Carl Edward Stoker, Janie Pridgen Stoker, Clarence Dean Phillips, and Lillian Lewis Phillips; and his brother, Charles Edward Stoker, Jr.
Mickey's girls will always cherish their memories of him dancing, picking strawberries, and buying more donuts than should ever be allowed. To them, he will always be Sugar Pie Honey Bunch.
A private burial ceremony will be held for family on December 21, 2024.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, December 30, from 10:00–11:00 AM at The Gathering Place at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Westmont Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28305. A memorial service will follow in Snyder's chapel at 11:00 AM.
In honoring Mickey's memory, the family invites you to celebrate his life, his laughter, and his love of family and friends. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
