Mavis Garris Rice, 80, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016, at Golden Living Center in Lumberton. She was born September 28, 1936, in Scranton, SC to the late Thomas & Viola Garris.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Loretta Bryant.

She is survived by her husband, Hampton "Hamp" Rice of Lumberton; her children: Clyde "Pete" Ard, Jr., Rita Mauney, Cindy Brown, Gypsy McKenzie, Renee A. Tate, and Calvin Ard; her step-daughters: Cheryl Willoughby and Annette Meshaw; one brother, Joseph "Jake" Garris; 12 grandchildren: Petie Ard, Cassie Brown-Britt and husband Kipp, Stewart Prosser, Jennifer Cooke and husband Andrew, Thomas Ard, Mendy McKenzie, Brittney Ard, Cody McKenzie, April Tate, Nelson Tate and wife Mikayla, Travis Ard, and Alexis Ard; and 7 great-grandchildren: McKrae Ard, Gavn Ard, Lauren Cooke, Kaylee Cooke, Brody Edwards, Kipptin Britt, and Ella Gray Brisson.

A time of visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at 2:00 PM at First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Lumberton with Dr. Norman Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery.
