Maurice Clinton Mitchell, age 96, of 1000 Wesley Pines Road, Lumberton, NC, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, NC. He was born on March 11, 1914 in Sandy Lake, PA to the late Harry Mitchell and Gladys Perrine Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell began his ministry with his work in Christian education at Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church in Sandy Lake, PA. His education consisted of a BA at Grove City College and a M.Div. at Princeton Theological Seminary. The churches Mr. Mitchell served after his ordination were Presbyterian Church in North Girard (now Lake City), PA, Presbyterian Church in Milford, NJ, First Presbyterian Church in Delhi, NY, First Presbyterian Church in Ilion, NY, Presbyterian Church in Oceanside, CA, Southeast Presbyterian Church in San Diego, CA and Foothill Presbyterian Church in San Jose, CA. He served as Stated Clerk at Utica Presbytery, NY and Executive Presbyter/Stated Clerk at Presbytery of Santa Barbara, CA.

In additon to his parents, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Jane Mitchell; a brother, Paul Mitchell; a sister, Virginia Carroll and a granddaughter, Laura White.

He is survived by four sons, Maurice C. Mitchell, Jr. and wife, Beth of Lumberton, NC, John K. Mitchell of Anaheim, CA, William H. Mitchell and wife, Denise of Bakersfield, CA and Stephen Mitchell and wife, Lynn of Matthews, NC; six grandchildren, John Mitchell, Chelsea Mitchell, Davis Mitchell, Melissa Mitchell, Hannah Mitchell and Kathy Frazier and seven great-grandchildren.
