Matilde Zavala Lopez, age 48, peacefully passed on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, NC. She was born on March 14, 1977 in Reforma Chiapas, Mexico.

Matilde will be remembered as a woman, who despite all the difficulties thrown at her in life, she gave her all to the very end. She was an incredibly hard working woman with a knack for making delicious meals that she was able to share with many, most famously known were her tamales. She was a singer and lector at her church, St. Louis Catholic Church in Dillon, SC.

She is survived by her 2 oldest daughters, Marisol and Mairobi, and younger son, Guillermo.

A funeral vigil will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 PM, with funeral mass at 3:00 PM, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 301 Mercer Avenue in Red Springs, NC. Burial will follow at Floyd Memory Gardens, 3720 Old Whiteville Road in Lumberton, NC.
