Mary Charles
Wrape Butler
Sep 16, 1932 — Apr 12, 2017
Mary Charles Wrape Butler (Charley), 84 of Cary, NC followed her beloved husband, Joe into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. She and Joe were married on November 25, 1951, and were blessed with the joy of sixty-five years together. Their love for each other was transcended only by their love and devotion to God. She is survived by a sister, Georgia Howell of Asheboro, her five children; Carol Fish (Geoff) of Lexington, Joe Butler III (Katie) of Lumberton, Jane Floyd (Les) of Gastonia, John Butler (Kristi) of Indian Trail, Charles Butler (Pam) of Cary, along with twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who loved their "Ma". She truly considered her marriage and family a precious gift from God.
Born September 16, 1932, "Charley" was the youngest of four daughters born to Grace McRae and Marvin Wrape, deceased, of Rockingham, NC. She graduated from Rockingham High School and Flora MacDonald College. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her five children and taught school in Cumberland and Robeson counties for many years.
A gifted artist and writer, Charley enriched the lives of many with the blessing of her talent. She was known to friends and family as a passionate teacher of God's word through Senior and Women's Ministries and was a wise counselor to those whose spirits needed mending. No matter where she was or who she met, she joyfully shared her faith. She exemplified the exhortation of the psalmist "This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it". Psalm 118:24
A service of remembrance will be held in Lumberton, NC at Floyd Mortuary on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 1:00 pm with her son, Reverend John Butler, officiating.
