Mary Barnes Lanier, 81, of 129 Dresden Avenue, Lumberton, NC died on April 22, 2009 at the Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, NC. She was born May 1, 1927 in Robeson County to the late Douglas D. Barnes, Sr. and Maude McLellan Barnes. She was a lifetime member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence G. Lanier; a daughter, Brenda Joyce Lanier; three brothers, Huckabee W. Barnes, D.M. Barnes and Charles L. Barnes; and two sisters, Ruby Ivey and Elizabeth Prevatte.

Mrs Lanier is survived by three sons, Lawrence Terry Lanier, Douglas Keith Lanier and Charles Kenneth Lanier all of Lumberton, NC; one brother, Douglas Barnes, Jr. of Asheboro, NC; two sisters, Phyliss Benton of Lumberton, NC and Barbara Davis of Ellerbe, NC; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 24, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel with the Reverends Donnie Davis and Chip Bass officiating. Burial will follow the service at the New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton, NC.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, April 24, 2009 prior to the funeral service from 2:00-3:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc.
