Obituary

Marilyn Rose Williamson Duncan, age 88, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023, at her home in Charlotte, NC.  Born January 29, 1935 in Lumberton, NC to the late Leighton Williamson and the late Rose Ella Calcutt Williamson, Marilyn recently moved to Charlotte to be closer to family.

Following graduation from Lumberton High School in 1953, Marilyn married her high school sweetheart, Carlon "Sonny" Duncan.  Life took them to Flint, MI, Virginia Beach, VA, and Jacksonville, FL before returning to Lumberton in 1973 with their 3 children.  They established Rosemont Rest Home, which they owned and operated for over 25 years.

Her greatest joy came from being a loving and devoted wife and mother with a passion for cooking and baking, especially for others.  Marilyn was a very strong and faithful Christian woman who was dedicated to her church, Chestnut Street Methodist Church. She could be found there several times a week as an office volunteer and helping with the various missions and ministries of the church.  And, as a member of the "Carolina Girls" line dance team, Marilyn could be found dancing at events throughout Lumberton and Robeson County, as well as many local assisted living and nursing facilities.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Carlon, and her son, Christopher Duncan.

She is survived by her children, Carlon "Chip" Duncan, Jr. and wife Robin of New Bern, NC and Rosemary Duncan Kmec and husband Bob Kmec of Weddington, NC; her grandchildren: Troy Duncan and wife Jessica of Clayton, NC, Griffin Duncan of Williamston, KY, Dwight Duncan of New Bern, NC, Christopher Kmec and wife Ignacia of Matthews, NC, Allison Kmec Littley and husband Gunnar of Charlotte, NC; and her great-grandson, Jack Kmec.
