Ms. Marie Hunt Schmale, known as "Tete", age 82, of Lumberton, NC, departed this life on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at her home. She was born January 22, 1938 in Robeson County, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olin Hunt and Lula Mae Oxendine Hunt; three brothers: Olin "OI" Hunt, Jr., Franklin Hunt, and James Earl Hunt; four sisters: Elise Callahan, Donna Lockley, Irene Oxendine, and Betty Carol Hunt; and three grandchildren: Tony Junior Schmale, Ricky Blake Chavis, Jr., and LaKota Brian Chavis.

She is survived by two sisters, Corless Sweat of Fairmont, NC and LaRue Hunt of Fairmont, NC; her seven children: Stacey Schmale, and Phyllis Schmale of the home, Tony Schmale & wife Shirley of Pembroke, NC, Tammy Schmale Locklear and husband James of Rowland, NC, Suzette "Susie" Chavis of Lumberton, NC, David Schmale and wife Kathy of Orrum, NC, and Shawn Schmale of Pembroke. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Ricky Chavis of Pembroke, NC, David Schmale, Jr. of Elizabethtown, NC, Samuel Locklear of Pembroke, NC, Brent Alan Schmale of Pembroke, NC, Daniel Lee Chavis of Pembroke, NC, along with nineteen other grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday, January 11, 2021, from 1:00-2:00pm at Grace Church, 1624 Addison Tram Road in Rowland, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00pm with Rev. Thomas Scott and Vernell Blue officiating.

Burial will be in Lumbee Memorial Gardens in Lumberton, NC.
