Marie Collins' Obituary
Mrs. Marie Britt Collins, of Orrum, NC, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, just eleven days shy of her 101
st
birthday. She was born on November 18, 1917, in Robeson County to the late Robert E. Britt and the late Lillie B. Britt. She was the co-owner and operator of Collins Country Store on Broadridge Road in Orrum for many years and also helped her husband with the family farm. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed countless hours at the sewing machine making clothing for family. The oldest member of Broadridge Baptist Church, she was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and the assistant pianist in her earlier years.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Collins; one brother, Douglas Britt; and two sons-in-law, Wilton Stephens and Jack Leggette.
She is survived by two daughters: Jessie Stephens of Orrum and Milla Leggette of Rowland; five grandchildren: Sharon Stephens Johnson (Perry), Phillip Stephens (Gina), Darwin Leggette (Susan), Melissa Bush (Brian), and Dana Warren (Jeff); ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Elouise Bullock of Lumberton.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 2:00-3:00 PM at Broad Ridge Baptist Church.
Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM with Rev. Johnny Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Broad Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Broad Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, 949 N. Broadridge Road, Orrum, NC 28369.
