Margie Byrd Britt passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016, after some years of declining health. A lifelong resident of Lumberton, Mrs. Britt was the eldest child of Frank P. Byrd & Gertrude C. Byrd Bruce.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Ellis A. Britt; her brother, Thomas H. Byrd; and her eldest son, Dickie E. Britt.

At the unexpected death of her father, Mrs. Britt and her husband assumed the operation of Byrd's Modern Dry Cleaners, which her father had opened in 1945. They were later joined by her brother, Tommy Byrd. In 1973, the Britts sold out their interest in the business due to Mr. Britt's health. They then purchased The Window Shop, Inc., expanding the drapery shop into a full interior design service. Mrs. Britt completed studies in interior design with LaSalle Extension University. She was engaged as an interior designer for more than 25 years at The Window Shop and as a consultant for many years following the closing of that business.

Mrs. Britt's indomitable faith has been the cornerstone of her life and work. Growing up, her family attended First Baptist Church. However, early in her married life, she and her family began attending Godwin Heights Baptist Church. She and Mr. Britt were dedicated members involved in the ministries of that church for many years. And later in her life she attended Chestnut Street United Methodist Church.

Second only to her faith was her devotion to her family. Mrs. Britt was a loving daughter, a devoted wife, an adoring mother, and a faithful friend. For those who loved her, Margie Britt will remain a memory of the immortal rose in the garden of humanity who fashioned her life an incorruptible Psalm unto the God who created her.

Mrs. Britt is survived by 2 sons: Myron K. Britt & Anthony P. Britt; 5 grandchildren: Dickie E. Britt, Jr., Brandon K. Britt, Lauren E. Britt, Jordan A. Britt, & Jenna B. Kent; and 4 great-grandchildren: Austin, Carson, Caleb, & Kaylee.
A time of visitation will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2016, from 7:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc.

A funeral service to honor the life of Margie B. Britt will be held on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Hawes & Dr. Lynn Bullock officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
